Descriptions:
We have worked several cutover work for exchanges. The photograph shows work for Nagpur Exchange.
It also gives an insight into the joints, cable changes and faults aiding location of the fault.
Model 3039-I works on the principle of Time domain reflectometry (TDR) and locates cable faults upto an approximately distance of 5 Km & above with an accuracy of ±1%. The velocity of propagation (VOP) V/2 for each cable type is set on a three digit thumbwheel switch.
It sends out an electrical narrow pulse of 35 to 1800ns width depending on distance to be coveredwith a fast rise time. The pulse is then reflected back to the unit from the cable impedence mismatch or the fault location.
The distance of the fault is then computed automatically and indicated in meters or feets on a
large LED display which will eliminate the manual calculations. Fault type is also identified by the graphic display of the shape of the reflected pulse.
It is simpler to operate and less error prone than manual bridge technique. It being light weight and portable can be carried on the field and can be operated for at least 8 hours on the internal rechargable batteries. Model 3039-I is provided with rechargeble batteries and an in built battery charger.

Descriptions:
The Cable Fault Locator Model 3049 is a portable field instrument working on the TDR principle and is designed to locate faults in unloaded telecommunication cables. The instrument is designed to work on one line (L1), to compare L1 and L2 or to display the difference. Crosstalk points such as split pairs can be located by transmitting the pulse on L1 and receiving it on L2.

The instrument has menu driven insulation tester capable of giving IR test up to 100 V DC and displays insulation resistance in Meg Ohm.
A healthy core/pair is used to get the loop resistance of the cable under test. When the faulty core/pair is connected to the instrument, balancing of the bridge is done automatically by the intelligent circuit incorporated in the instrument. However, the balancing can also be done manually in specific cases.
After the balancing, the result of the fault distance from sending end is displayed on the screen.A Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR) has limitations of locating open and short circuit faults only. Low insulation faults are beyond the scope of such instruments. This calls for an instrument that can offer complete solution to the problems faced in the field.
TFL B5 combines a TDR and an advanced bridge capable of locating any fault on telecommunication and pilot cables. It can locate open or short circuit faults up to 15 km length with precise accuracy on TDR mode. Further, the advanced bridge mode can locate any low insulation fault up to 20 M Ohm.
Additionally, there is provision of IR measurement of the cable insulation at 100 V DC for carrying out regular insulation tests.
