High Voltage Test Instruments Reliable and cost effective instrument for high pressure testing
Features HVG
Easy to perform HIPOT test. Comprehensive safety features. Continuously adjustable output voltage. Selectable current ranges. Built in auto discharge in case of mains power failure or instrument switch off. Timer provision to switch off the instrument automatically after the preset period.
Application HVG FUNCTION Dielectric testing of cables and installations with DC or AC / DC (optionally). Pre-location of faults having high resistance nature, by using Voltage transient / decay method.
| |
OPERATION Connect the cable / device to HV test instrument with all safety precautions, especially reliable safety earth connection. Increase the output voltage gradually to avoid heavy in rush current to the cable / Device under test. Maintain the prescribed voltage for given period of time. The leakage current indication will give the dielectric strength of the insulation. Apply AC Voltage to specifically advised devices only such as bus-bar insulators etc. High pot testers are successfully used for pre-locating high resistance faults where surge / arc reflection methods fail to give results. This method is know as voltage coupler / Decay method.

LV Surge Tester Fault Locating Instrument |
Reliable and cost-effective instrument for pre-location & pin-pointing cable faults Occurrence of cable fault can not be avoided due to many factors. Long outage of a cable from service results in heavy loss of revenue to the power distribution company production loss to industries as well as unpleasant condition to general public. This requires an efficient instrument capable of locating the fault in minimum possible time and restoring the supply. SWT 4 is a powerful instrument to pre-locate the fault distance and exactly locate the fault point in a short time. It offers 500J energy on 2, and 4 KV ranges, that allows its use on LT networks effectively.
Pre-location SWT 4 has built-in current coupler that can be used to get the fault distance measurement carried out on a suitable TDR on Impulse Current Mode. It can also be coupled to other instrument compliments such as Arc Reflection Filter to get reliable results of the fault distance.

Pin-Point Location Surges of high energy are applied to the fault at the set voltage and time interval for pin-pointing the exact spot on the cable length. These surges create noise and vibrations at the fault site. The intensity of the noise and vibrations get attenuated during their travel to the ground surface. A ground microphone and a sensitive surge wave receiver SLE 90, carried on the route of the cable on the pre-located area pin-point the exact spot of the fault in minimum time.
Single Impulse and repetitive surges The instrument has single impulse mode, by which a single shot of surges is applied to the fault for ascertaining the level offault breaking. This mode is also necessary for pre-location tests to be carried out with other instrument compliments. Repetitive timings of 4 and 8 second intervals are suitable for pin-pointing the fault.
Safety controlsSWT 4 employs safety controls for personnel and instrument safety. Variac zero, HV switch interlock, output cable plug interlock, instant earth discharge of internal capacitor bank and the cable under test at the time of switching off/tripping offer absolutely safe operational condition. Tripping with indication and non operation of the instrument due to over heat condition caused due to any problem, safeguards the instrument for any damage. This safety control resets automatically after cooling down to normal condition.

Portable Cable Fault Locator |
Compact and lightweight cable fault locator TFL 5 is most suitable for field application. It uses state of the art digital
technology for precise location of faults in underground metallic cables. It is a menu driven microprocessor based Time
Domain Reflectometer (TDR), which can locate open or short circuit faults on any type of metallic cables. The advanced
circuitry utilizes high-speed sampling of 500 Ms/s for better resolution of echograms. The instrument incorporates a unique feature of automatic placement of measuring cursor at fault point. This makes it totally user friendly and any operator having minimal knowledge can successfully locate the fault.

Operation
The cable fault locator TFL 5 is a portable field instrument working on Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) principle, using advanced digital technology. It is designed to locate faults in any type of metallic cables, such as unloaded
telecommunication or power, network or co-axial cables. It sends a pulse of energy on the cable that propagates towards the far end. This pulse returns to the sending end from the point of mismatch of impedance. The transmitted and reflected pulses simultaneously appear on the LCD screen as an echogram and a measuring cursor is automatically set to the point of fault. The location of the measuring cursor computes the fault distance from the sending end. However, in case of
complex fault, the cursor can be set manually at the fault point. The velocity factor (VOP) is automatically set for the type of cable selected through the menu. However, it can be set manually by getting the reflection on a known length of same type of cable. The active echogram of a faulty pair/core can be compared with the healthy one stored in one of the memory locations. The data of echograms can be downloaded to a PC through the RS 232 port. TFL 5 can typically locate open and short circuit faults. It can also be used for other faults such as series and shunt, splibr>pairs and ingress of moisture faults. It can also indicate locations of cable joints.

WLD 90 Water escaping at the leak spot strikes the surrounding soil, generating sound waves that propagate up to ground surface. These waves are received by the ground microphone when it is placed in the vicinity ofthe leak spot. Receiver amplifier connected to it enables the operator to hear the leak noise through headphones and signal level is displayed through an indicator to locate the leak spot accurately. There are several factors, such as pressure in the pipeline, type of leak (small or big puncture, failure of gasket or joint) that govern the sound wave frequency. Therefore the receiver amplifier should have selective filters for all type of leak noises.
| |
Operation
WLD 90 Before commencing the operation, check and note down the pipeline material, diameter and pressure. The conductivity of sound waves and their propagation characteristics depend on the material of the pipeline (Fig. 2) Ground microphone MIC is kept on the ground surface, at marked route of the pipeline. The volume is set to middle position for comfortable audio signal received at headphones. Sensitivity is selected to give full scale deflection by small noises such as tapping the ground. Initially broad band filter E (120-1800 Hz) is selected for preliminary search. The ground microphone should be placed on the route of the pipeline at an interval of 1 m distance.
